Antonia (Laura Antonelli), the upright, repressed wife of a philandering husband (Marcello Mastroianni), comes out of her shell when the man is suspected of murder and forced into hiding. She takes over his business and experiences a sexual awakening as her husband watches, amazed, from his hiding place across the street. When the real killer is found, the man quietly goes home to his wife’s waiting arms. This story, set in the early 1900s, has an underplayed eroticism and fine performances. An adult movie with a feminist core.
