Hard times: Angelina, mother of five, struggles for her rights, by leading neighborhood women against black marketeers and a corrupt landlord. Her friends want her to run for Congress, but the landlord has her arrested, leading her neighbors to think that she betrayed their cause. But when released, she regains their confidence. However, she decides to give more time to her family. A pre-feminist film which director Luigi Zampa only took so far. But Magnani’s rendering makes the viewing a real experience.
