A wife runs off with a lover, abandoning her faithful husband and Pricò, a sensitive child. The husband takes her back, only to be abandoned again. The second desertion is too much for his poor heart. He commits suicide. The child is an inescapable witness, exposed so early to the evils of life. Based on the novel “Pricò” by Cesare Giulio Viola, the film, a cornerstone of Italian neorealism, marks the first collaboration between scriptwriter Cesare Zavattini and director Vittorio De Sica.
