After ten years, Father Giulio leaves the small island where he had his parish to go back to his hometown, Rome. When he arrives, though, he finds his new church empty and abandoned and his family and friends depressed, frustrated and reluctant to receive his help.
In his own surreal and peculiar way, Moretti points his sarcastic yet enraged finger against the false ideals and hypocritical behavior that have corrupted modern life.
