A retelling of Homer’s famous poem about Ulysses’ wanderings after the Trojan war as he heads for home to his faithful Penelope. Kirk Douglas as Ulysses gives a fine performance. The adventures leading to his arrival at Ithaca are well visualized. Douglas speaking Italian is a bit much Shot in Italy when Cinecitt… was turning out the bigger-than-life costume epics. Ben Hecht and Irwin Shaw were among the scriptwriters.
